If you are not in Christchurch, here is what you can do to help:

Donate! Donate! Donate! Donations of money are the best form of help we can give to the people of Christchurch. With this money they can buy items they really need. Here are some options for donations:

  • Contact your nearest volunteer centre or council for the information about the actions in your community. Think about how your skills and experiences could assist in rebuilding Christchurch through the activities in your community. 
  • If you are organising a fundraising or other event for the Christchurch earthquake relief, register on VolunteerNet to attract volunteers to assist you. If you would like to volunteer on one of these events, check out www.volunteernet.org.nz, as well.
  • Health professionals click here for more information on how you can register and help.
  • If you'd like to offer an accommodation to someone from Christchurch please register your offers on www.quakeescape.org.nz. You can also register your offers on Offering free temporary accommodation for Christchurch quake victims Facebook page.
  • Those in Auckland who want to know whether to fly down to Christchurch to volunteer, Volunteering Auckland are taking a register of people in Auckland willing to help and will contact them when Christchurch is ready for "2nd Response" . Visit www.volunteeringauckland.org.nz or their Facebook page for more info.
  • Consider training in advanced first aid, search and recue and other disaster management fields to be able to assist more directly in the future.

If you are already in Christchurch:

  • Red Cross in Christchurch: If you are based locally and have relevant skills register with the Red Coss. 
  • People with beds to offer should go to www.Room4rent.co.nz.
  • If you can offer help (food, accommodation, transport, petcare) or need help go to www.quakehelp.co.nz or www.trademe.co.nz.  
  • You can visit Volunteering Canterbury Facebook page and leave messages if you'd like to volunteer or need volunteer help. At this moment VolCan is not in position to manage the volunteers, but this could help people to get connected. Please don't leave the messages if you are out of Christchurch, leave the page for the people who are there.
  • If you have data entry and phone handling skills get in touch with the Christchurch Red Cross, they need volunteers. More information is available from NZ Red Cross - Christchurch Earthquake 6.3 Facebook page.
  • Many community organisations in Christchurch have lost offices, resources, volunteers... However, most uf them are still up and running. Check www.ngoupdater.org.nz to see how you could assist them or how their services could help you.
