YOUNG SENIORS
    ... YOUR PLACE

If you're over 50 then this is your special place on the VolunteerNow website, so welcome.

Employment statistics show that as the workforce ages beyond 50, an increasing number of people simply drop out; the labour non-participation rate (those unemployed, and those classified as "not in the labour force but available for work" added together as a percentage of the working population) rises gradually from around 20 per cent to 60 per cent for those aged between 50 and more than 60 years.

Volunteering is a way to change and challenge these statistics.

Volunteering today, with effective organisational management and role description/creation, uses the skills, expertise and experience of older people and ensures training both from and with volunteer staff.

Also volunteering:

  • is a way to meet other like-minded people
  • ensures mental and emotional fitness
  • leads to new directions and new horizons
  • can help maintain physical wellbeing.

VolunteerNow's Beginning

Through an idea by the Prime Minister and Stephen Tindall, followed up by financial support from the Tindall Foundation, this website came into being. The idea was to provide a way for those aged 55-65 with great skills and experience to use these through volunteering. This page is the special place on this website for these 'young seniors' to visit and see what's happening to their peers.

Please send us stories and information to add to this page. Stories on how volunteering has benefited you and those you volunteer for are welcomed.

If you're not volunteering at the moment, then take a look at our Opportunities page and see what interests you and offer your life experience by becoming a VolunteerNow!
